Snowflake Blockbuster

Closing the exhibition series Bodies of Work in the chapel of Kunsthal Extra City, Snowflake Blockbuster unfolds as a playful, fantasy-fueled convergence of the two distinct artistic practices of the siblings Alise Anna Dzirniece and Janis Dzirnieks.
“Something occurred in a dream. Or perhaps one may say it was a sort of a second shift of reality, as dreams and fantasies often are. There were two little bears, a brother and a sister, and they sat next to a river. The brother bear looked down, and in the water, behind the clear streams where fish lead their days, he saw the river bed all covered with tiles. There was also a lake once, but that was more a domain of the sister bear, where her long-lost lizard friend lived, but also other animals lived there, and tale-like events unfolded by the lake. There was another dream, where boom there was an explosion, and blocks and pieces of plywood and foams went flying, smashing everything in their way towards the tiled floor of the chapel. The bears were roaring, the birds went flying, and the rabbits lost their boots running away from the shatters. There was indeed an explosion that night on their street, which shattered the glass of a nearby ice cream seller. Like dream touching reality no less than reality penetrating fantasy.”
